I read somewhere that you only truly have hyperhidrosis if you hands are sweaty, but surly that can't be so? Also Has anyone ever been heavily desuaded by their GP not to undergo surgery? Cause I have, and I kind of left me in the woods about the whole thing

That definition is nonsence really, hyperhidrosis is excessive, mainly uncontrolable sweating anywhere on the body: hands, feet, underarms, facial, scalp, buttocks, back, chest, legs.

Where is your problem area? I think your GP might know quite a bit about the surgery so i'd listen to him first.
