ETS Procedure MUST KNOW

Post by iiS »

Dear Admin,

Thank you for your website and useful information which you provide to public with honest and willingness to help.

I have a lot of questions which I would like to ask regarding the ETS procedure.

I am 38 years male. I work in finance field. I have a case of excessive sweating in palms and legs, plus cases of Anxiety / Social Fobia (panic attacks if making a presentation or talking in public, or meeting someone suddenly .. (I think last time I did, my heart beat rate raised to 160 without any reason).

I would like to ask you should I go for the ETS procedure or should I try certain calming medication such as cipralex or zanax..etc to treat hyperhidrosis and anxiety..? given that these medicines affect my *** desire… and accordingly they are disastrous in other terms.

I have the following queries regarding the ETS procedure:

1 Can the procedure be done at the hand itself..? i.e. some place at the rest or arm..? rather than being done below neck or at the back..?

2 Does the procedure cure hyper sympathetic activity. Because, in addition to sweating of palms and legs (which I can control to some extent by
using the Iontophoresis - which require time and regularity), I sometimes experience unnecessary great anxiety / Social Fobia coupled by increase in pulse depending on the situation, presentation to a group of audience and meeting someone.. etc.)

3 Does the ETS lead to improved sleeping, since my anxiety is continuous and I have very troubled sleeping ranging from 4 to 5 hours a day, and whether the ETS procedure affects the ability to be active (laziness feeling or less active) ,, (i.e. turn person from anxiety to laziness..?)

4 Should oral medical intake (other than physiological calming medications) be tried before going for the surgical solution..

5 Is anxiety is connected to hyperhidrosis …? Is it a result or cause … i.e. is hyper activity of the sympathetic nerve cause both (sweating + anxiety).

6 What is meant by people saying the operation "ruined' their lives.. I have noted that in many many reviews…!!

7 What about affect of ETS on feelings.. because I assume that the sympathetic nerve also have something to do with the feelings (e.g. love, happiness, sadness..etc).. .

8 What about the effect on *** desire / *** drive / *** performance ... does this have any effect on this.. stimulation is always accompanied with love and desire feeling...and erection always accompanied by higher pulse rate.. so can the procedure cause erection dysfunction.

9 What does it mean by that the pulse rate cannot be raised after this operation… i.e. if jogging or exercising my heart rate will not go up..!! and what is the negative effect of that..? what would this differ for me…?,, does this have something to do with body energy …?

10 Does the procedure have any effect on gaining or losing weight ?

11 What about Horner syndrome (eye lid get a little bit closed..) this is really a fatal injury leading to disfigurement of the face..!!

12 Why doctors use cutting Vs clipping,, and why they mention that if you didn’t like the results we can reverse it back by removing the clips.... so how i can don’t like the results being my hand (and feet) not sweating..?.. this implies that there is other undesirable effects..? (it is worth mentioning that i noted that one doctor from Finland is specialised in reversing the effect of the ETS....!!! )

13 How much is its approximate cost ..? and do you know any good doctor who is specialized in ETS in the middle east like UAE or Egypt or countries next to middle east..?

14 Can ETS be replaced by a procedure to remove the sweating glands for eg in the hands..? I don’t know about the practicality of that but at least it is away from the sympathetic nerve..?

15 Finally, I have 3 daughters,, I think 2 of them inherited hyperhidrosis from me (and I am really sorry for them because I know how this will affect their entire life ..). is there a minimum age to undergo the operation.

By the way, I think feet sweating is less irritating then hand since it is not oblivious to others.. so my concern is little bit more to hand sweating and anxiety)

Thank you.

Hello and thanks for your detailed post,

Most of your questions are answered on the main site (http://www.no-ets.com) if you go through it in detail. Please read every page on it.

I can never encourage someone to get ETS, but I also do not discourage it if you feel that your symptoms are extremely bothersome.

ETS will almost always cure your hand sweating, but your feet sweating will often not be cured (I assume you mean "feet" when you say "leg" -- since the latter sweating is never cured by ETS). Some surgeons state that ETS will cure social phobia, but I think this is not true in most cases. I never suffered from social phobia before I had my ETS surgery.

It seems like you are mistaken in your knowledge about how the surgery is performed. There are no incisions on the back or neck! The surgeon enters through the armpit, and the ganglion(s) cut is/are near your spine and chest area. Ideally, you only want one ganglion cut to limit side effects. In the olden days they cut you up from he back, but run and don't look back if your surgeon still wants to do that today!

I would suggest that you call some surgeons to find out how the surgery is done, check out youtube ETS surgery videos, and do some google searching.

For me, ETS did not change sleeping habits. I do feel like I am lazier than in the past, but that is not due to ETS, but rather due to my having a much easier financially secure life and my doing independent contract work (I can pick and choose my projects) rather than going to an office every day. ETS does not seem to have affected by being able to decide how active I should be. I am always happier if I am very active, but it takes an effort for me to be active when I am fairly content with most aspects of my life and not in any kind of urgent need for money.

ETS did not affect my feelings one way or other, but my resting heart rate declined slightly, and I do think that perhaps I do not get as excited as I used to about some things -- but that would also just be due to not being very young anymore. I do not feel that ETS has affected my sense of optimism in any significant way, and I am still as optimistic as I was when younger about most things.

My athletic/sporting abilities are unchanged after ETS even though my resting heart rate declined slightly.

The main side effect you should worry about is compensatory sweating in your chest, back, legs etc... With newer techniques, surgeons claim that there is much less chance of getting CS.

Horner's Syndrome (droopy eyelids) is very very rare with an experienced surgeon.

Clipping is preferred to cutting by most surgeons, but I do not think that most clipping reversals are entirely successful. Read the reversals part of my main site.

I do not know any experienced surgeons in the Middle East except in Israel. Your best bet is to go to Western Europe where there are some very good surgeons such as Dr. Cameron in the UK and Dr. Tarfusser in Italy. See my ETS surgeon rankings page on the main site.

Your daughters should not have the surgery till they are at least 14 years old. Sometimes the problem goes away. Sorry to hear that they got the problem, but they are lucky that the surgery is much improved nowadays and they have the internet to do their research.

ETS did not cause erectile dysfunction in me and most people do not have to worry about this. Lumbar sympathectomy (different surgery for feet sweating only) can cause this problem, although even there, new procedures seem to not cause that side effect.
