Recieved botox injections

Post by Sugar27 »

Young days
My sweating started from being very young holding my mothers hand, she had said that my hands were always warm but never wet or sweaty. As time went on and i became a teenager, things started getting worse, my hands went from being warm to very sweaty and I then realised that my armpits and feet were the same during p.e and after school activities. As being a bubbly girl who likes to socialise I felt as if I could never let my true personality come out , due to in any case someone having to touch my hand during contact etc. When it came to going on holiday I begin to realise that i could not even wear foam sandles due to the sweat bubbling up into my toes etc , i would accidently skid a few times whilst walking as well due to the wetness.
Doctor appointments
I eventually came round to telling my mother about this and she never understood how truly horrible it was to have this, you find that no one knows unless you have it yourself, its as if its ruining your life. I got to the point where i eventually went to the doctors to see about treatment, i remember showing the doctors my hands and dying inside with embarrassment even though they are used to seeing worse case of things. For my armpits i was offered a driclor solution which you apply at night most nights, I was relieved that after a week of using it had worked on my armpits!. The doctor had suggested that i could also use this on my hands, which i tried and it failed to work. So unfortunately i was back at square one with my hands. I went back to the doctors a few times requesting different things that i had seen online had worked for people.
Botox injections
After waiting about 2 year using different creams etc that didnt work i was referred to a hospital were i would be put to sleep and get botox in my palms. At this point i didnt know whether to feel relieved or not due to being let down by all of the other treatments i had been given. After i had the botox i was sitting in the waiting area waiting to come round from my anesthetic , i felt my palms and they were as sweaty as they had ever been , i had a few bruises off where the needles had been inserted. I then said to the nurse " i dont think it has worked" she assured me by ssaying it takes a couple of days. Ive now been waiting for 3 days for it to work and still nothing has changed. I am going to wait another few days to see if it has improved.

what to do now?

I have started to think about my problems more than ever have, ive started to become more unsociable because i cannot simply bare the embarrassment any more. Im starting to think that the only thing left would be surgery, which the doctor also informed me that when the nerve glands are cut in your hands , the sweating can then lead to else where (legs, back etc) . For now i am going to wait another few days to see if the botox has actually been worth while or another waste of time!. I will get back to whoever needs advice on any treatments ive recieved.

Sorry to here that Sugar27,

I understand what you're going through. I use to really struggle with excessive sweating. Things have change for me. It started 5 years ago for me from associating situations and emotions to sweating.

People will never understand unless they have gone through it. I use to always wipe my hands to keep them dry. One thing I realize about excessive sweating once you start sweating it's difficult to stop.

I have been studying it for a while. You know what I realize my problem was. Well my problem was inside my mind. This is the reason I was sweating so much.
It still comes back sometimes but I know what to do every time to get rid of it again.

It only takes me a few minutes a day for a few days to get rid of it now.

I'm a man, so it's a little easier to deal with. I know it's tougher on girls because it's not a feminine thing. The idea in society is woman are suppose to be cute dry and sanitary.

But, you're not alone take courage. You will overcome it. It doesn't matter how long you've been suffering from it's possible to do this.

Also, most men tend to not care whether a girl sweats if she smells good and if they think she's pretty.

Take courage ok, you'll overcome it. It doesn't matter how long you've had this issue.

I have wanted to mention something else to you sugar27.

You what I realize with my sweating, the problem was in mind, the thoughts I was thinking about. This might be your problem as well. I tried so many treatments also nothing work, well not treatments but a lot of home remedies and deodorants.

Once you stop the problem in your mind. You will stop sweating...

Take care....

Hey savyeguy. . thanks for your reply :)

Yess i agree most of this is totally in the mind , and weirdly enough as i was reading your reply my hands and feet started sweating due to thinking about it again! Also yes i do believe it is worse for girls due to what you said in your reply. . I do get complimented a lot on my looks and also get asked "why are you single? its impossible for a girl like you to be single!" and deep down inside Im dying knowing that my problem with sweating stops me wanting a relationship.. my family are really supportive of this and have offered to chip in for the ionstrophis machine (or however it is spelt). As I have now waited a week from having my botox in palms and there is still no change what so ever. So I really do not recommend this as it is a waste of time and money depending if you have to pay for your treatments.

Thanks again for your reply , i will try and take on board any advice given :).

Hey Hope, Unfortunately the botox has definately failed to work after waiting almost 2 weeks and being told it would work within a few days. I going to keep seeking for other treatments and i am starting to consider going for the ETS !

Be careful sugar :| compensatory sweating after ETS is the worst thing ever I can say!
I've heard about something called miraDry by the way *though it sounds too good to be true*, there's still the other treatment option you can consider instead of ETS.

Hi there,

I'm sorry the botox didn't work for you. But don't feel like you're the only one, because there's a lot of posters that report the botox not working well for their palmar hh either. It looks like you haven't tried iontophoresis yet. I strongly recommend trying it before opting for surgery. Don't get a Drionic machine, they're cheap and not effective. If you want you could try the homemade machine, but from my experience it is not suitable for long term use. It's incredibly painful, and even caused burn marks on my skin. I would recommend a Hidrex machine. Though I also tried an Idromed PC, I believe I would have preferred the Hidrex if I had one. The Idromed's connectors are absolutely terrible; if you accidentally move the container you might move the connectors causing an uncomfortable shock. Iontophoresis didn't click with me, but everybody is different. Iontophoresis may be the right key that unlocks dry hands for you, therefore I would certainly give it a shot if I were in your shoes.

Good luck,
Steve

Hellooo guysss, thanks for all your replies with your advice. .

I suppose i am willing to give the iontrophesis a try but it is because the machine is so expensive to buy, It is making me not want to risk it if it doesn't actually work! . . I think ive been thinking about getting the ETS so much because of watching embarrassing bodies series on TV, seeing that the girl who received ETS did not get any compensatory sweating it is making me think i will be the same! although i have been told different. . Also when people say that the compensatory sweating ruins your life more than the actual palmer hh , i could not see how it could be worse as having it in your hands is the most embarrassing part of your body , considering that is what you use to touch things/people etc , and it is mostly your nerves and the tingling sensation you feel when you start to get sweaty and i couldnt imagine feeling that in my legs , back or wherever the sweating moves to..... AHHHHHHH gettng so frustrated with the whole thing i just hope scientists start to discover more curable things :( .

Hi,
So far I have had 3 times botox. I am not sure how many units on each palm. But it rescued me! It lasts about 10-12 moths. I've had Hyperhidrosis since I was 7 (that's when I found that, may be even before that) and I am 35...I tried Drysol for a while but was not working that much for me. Botox made the miracle...It's important that your doctor inject enough units, otherwise it might not be as effective. The only problem always I have is that, for about 3 moths after botox injection, my hands are kind of paralyzed, I cannot do my buttons and cannot write with heavy pen, or cannot hold heavy knife or fork... This year even I found after 2 years of having botox, my hands sweat much less when the effect of botox supposed to be gone...Not sure if it's because I am getting older or that's the effect of botox...For whole my life (since I remember), I was becoming embarrassed at school and nervous when my hands would start sweating. Unfortunately when you feel nervous it gets worse...I hope botox help you too...I feel I have found my cure and I am hoping next year or the year after I would not need any botox injection...
