18 and dealing with HH confidently?

Post by AVANTIKAA »

Hello everybody
This is avantika from india. i am an 18 yr old girl and as u can guess i am also a victim of the deadly HH. I have been living with HH for nearly a decade . And yes i have surely been disgusted with this ailment. Its hard to live the everyday life . Difficult to write exams and take part in tasks that require my hands and feet so i avoid them as much as possible although i cant avoid the exams! :/ But till date i have been living confidently. I have seen in many HH patients' lack of confidence and increased anxiety and i have also seen it in myself. but this wont help us . As i suffer from the worst form of HH i have accepted life. I am just 18 and have a long way to go in life . I have ambitions that certainly require my hands and feet to work .So everytime the thought of HH comes to mind i try to chuck it . Thats the only way i can manage to live a little more happier life. I do have limitations like all of u. Cant wear slippers or sandals can't use touchphones can't go out without a hanky in my hand(a large one) can't shake hands with people or give a high-5 to my buddies.and so many more the list is long enough and i m sure u already know all of it .But thinking about this makes me feel worse. Yet i am a good speaker i take part in competitions i socialise with people well and i have many friends. Many people ask me about my abnormal palms and why i am always to be seen in shoes and without any hesitation i tell them about my insignificant yet life-changing disorder . i dont give a damn to people who find me abnormal or make fun of me(yes some are rude enough to make fun of HH) .So thats my story. this is how i deal with everbody around me.

Good for you, I think that is the best route to take. Dwelling on it will only put a damper on life, and we're only given one. I too am very social and worry about my sweaty hands, and lately it's been all i can think about. i see couples hanging out sitting real close and i always wish i could do that, but i'm always trying to hide my hands so they don't get touched because they're so wet.

every person has been given strengths and weaknesses, and if sweaty hands is my worst weakness, i'm not too bad off because i know i have a lot of strengths. keep on keepin on Avantika

@ golfer - yeah that's all i can do. i have read a lotta posts and many have been talking about ETS and drugs like tranxene robinul. U think this could help me?? i guess i suffer from the worst form of HH. How severe is ur HH? I mean do u just sweat occasionally or too often? I read ur post in which u mentioned that u r a senior pre med studnt so have u by any chance found out the cause of this HH? I had once read that there's an underlying ailment which causes HH. but i m not sure . am not getting the answer on the net as well.

Avantika,

I used Robinul Forte starting when I was 21, after trying prescription anti-perspirants which didn't work. The Robinul did work for me however, though it tends to make you dry elsewhere, particularly a dry mouth.

I subsequently had the ETS surgery which cured my hands. Despite some compensatory sweating (on my body) I'm very happy I had the surgery.

As the surgery treats only the hands I now use iontophoresis for my feet. This works perfectly for me.

I recommend you look into trying Robinul and/or iontophoresis.

Good luck!
-Robert
